Backup CDL Class A Driver / Warehouse Associate (Ipswich, MA)
United Pipe & Steel, a member of the Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. family of companies, is the largest master distributor of standard pipe products in the United States, serving wholesale distributors only from our fleet of flatbed trucks. We are looking for a Backup CDL A Driver / Warehouse Associate to join our Ipswich, Massachusetts-based team!
General Duties and Responsibilities
We are currently seeking a person who will primarily be in the warehouse 75% of the time operating a forklift and will have the skills to drive a flatbed when necessary. The right candidate will have a Class A CDL driver’s license. The main purpose of this position is to ensure the effective management of dedicated accounts by providing coverage for drivers during vacation, FMLA, or employee turnover. It also allows for advancement to become a full-time driver should a position become available.
Warehouse
- Loading & unloading pipe from flatbed trucks
- Operates forklift to pick and transport heavy inventory around the warehouse
- Climbing on and off flatbed trailers
- Maintains forklift by completing preventive maintenance. Report any malfunctions, insufficiencies, or necessary repairs through the relevant channels.
- Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
- Ensure the warehouse area is cleaned, organized, and that all safety procedures are being followed at all times.
- Inspects all products shipped and received, reporting defective or damaged items.
Backup Driver (Home Daily)
- Ensure safe delivery and pick up of product and equipment
- Climbing on and off flatbed trailers, re-tarping product
- Abide by all Federal and local laws
- Responsible for taking care of & maintaining all assigned equipment and product
- Maintain DOT compliance with logbook, vehicle, and vehicle operation
- Maintain load security
- Make deliveries on schedule
Qualifications
- Physical position, involving heavy lifting (~75 lbs.) and re-tarping the truck multiple times per day
- Valid CDL Class A License
- Organized, punctual, and a team player
